Rwanda Launches Africa’s First Self-Flying Electric Air Taxi in Historic Aviation Milestone

Rwanda has proudly unveiled Africa’s first self-flying electric air taxi at the Aviation Africa 2025 Summit, held in the dynamic capital city of Kigali.

This landmark achievement—developed in partnership with China Road and Bridge Corporation and operated by the pioneering tech firm EHang—marks the continent’s first public flight of an autonomous passenger drone.

It positions Rwanda at the forefront of next-generation urban air mobility in Africa.

Beyond revolutionizing urban transportation, the initiative reflects Rwanda’s commitment to innovation-driven economic growth and sustainable infrastructure.

Further underscoring its forward-thinking vision, Rwanda also announced plans for a 5.5-kilometer state-of-the-art cable car system, with construction beginning in 2026 and completion expected by 2028.
