Former Trade Minister Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, along with former government officials Alhaji Abubakar Saddique Boniface and Yaw Buaben Asamoa, officially launched the United Party (UP)—a new political force promising national unity, ethical leadership, and economic transformation.
At the launch event held at the Coconut Grove Hotel on Thursday October 16 in Accra, Mr. Kyerematen declared the formation of the United Party as “the beginning of a movement that puts Ghana first,” marking what he described as the dawn of a new era in Ghanaian politics.
“Today, we lift Ghana UP—united in purpose, driven by integrity, and committed to prosperity for all,” he proclaimed.
A Third Force Rises
The United Party, which received its provisional certificate from the Electoral Commission on October 3, 2025, positions itself as a centrist and inclusive alternative to the long-standing duopoly of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to Mr. Kyerematen, the UP is not just a political party but a national movement aimed at bridging ideological, social, and partisan divides.
Vision 2040: The “Paradise Project”
Central to the party’s agenda is Vision 2040, dubbed the “Paradise Project”, which seeks to transform Ghana into the economic powerhouse of Africa within 15 years.
This vision is anchored on Mr. Kyerematen’s Great Transformational Plan (GTP), a comprehensive development framework focused on:
- Industrialisation
- Private sector empowerment
- Youth employment
- Debt sustainability
- Good governance and institutional reform
He emphasized that UP will be grounded in ethical leadership, meritocracy, and zero tolerance for corruption.
Symbolism and Identity
The party’s emblem, the Monarch Butterfly, was unveiled as a symbol of transformation, hope, and resilience.

Its official colours—yellow, black, and white—represent Ghana’s gold wealth, the Black Star of Africa, and purity of purpose, respectively.
Back to Founding Ideals
Interim National Chairman, Abubakar Saddique Boniface, framed the party’s emergence as a return to Ghana’s founding ideals.
“This is the rebirth of a tradition built on unity and hard work.
The UP is here to unite our people and build a country that works for everyone,” he stated.
Interim General Secretary, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, positioned the UP as a vehicle for reform and inclusion.
“The United Party is not just another option. It is a new beginning.
We are building bridges where others have built walls,” he said.
He also revealed plans for bold constitutional and governance reforms, including the creation of a Second Chamber of Governance—a platform to give voice to civil society, labour unions, traditional authorities, and faith-based organisations.
A Movement for Change
The event concluded with enthusiastic chants of the party’s slogan, “Ghana is UP!”, capturing the spirit of optimism that defined the launch.
In his final remarks, Alan Kyerematen delivered a rousing message of hope:
“The United Party is the people’s party. Together, we will lift Ghana—UP: United, Prosperous, and Transformed.God bless our homeland Ghana.”
