The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects in connection with a syndicate that allegedly uses taxi cabs to steal mobile phones and other valuables from unsuspecting passengers.
The suspects—identified as Sasu Lawrence, also known as Agbe; Richard Osei; and Charles Kofi Nti, also known as Survivor—were arrested on 12 January 2026 following an intelligence-led operation.

Preliminary police investigations indicate that the suspects operate mainly during the early hours of the day, posing as taxi drivers in search of passengers. According to investigators, two of the suspects sit in the front seats of the vehicle, while a third positions himself in the back seat.

Police further revealed that once a victim—mostly women—boards the taxi, the suspects allegedly lock the doors to prevent the passenger from alighting. As the victim struggles to open the door, the suspect seated at the back pretends to assist but instead steals the victim’s mobile phone or wallet.

The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations. Police say efforts are underway to identify and arrest other individuals believed to be involved, including those who receive and trade in the stolen items.
