Use Party Mechanisms to Resolve Election Grievances – Peace Council Urges NPP Aspirants

The National Peace Council has advised presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who may be dissatisfied with the outcome of the party’s presidential election scheduled for January 31 to resolve their grievances through established internal party mechanisms.

The advice was given at a peace pact signing ceremony involving the NPP presidential aspirants held in Accra on Thursday, January 22.

Speaking on behalf of the National Peace Council, the Bonpata Paramount Chief in the Ashanti Region, Nana Effah Apenteng, urged the aspirants to commit themselves fully to the remedial measures outlined in the peace pact.

“The Council urges the aspirants to submit themselves to the remedial measures the party has put in place in the pact to be signed.

In the event that any or all of the aspirants are not successful and are dissatisfied with any of the steps in the elections, they should use the laid-down mechanisms, including those contained in the peace pact, to address their grievances,” he stated.

Nana Effah Apenteng commended the NPP for taking proactive steps to promote peace ahead of the internal election, describing the initiative as a strong demonstration of democratic values.

“The Council wishes to commend the NPP for taking significant steps to ensure peace before and during the election.

The Council further commends the party for demonstrating sound democratic principles by being the first political party to internalise the peace pact,” he added.

The NPP presidential aspirants contesting the January 31 polls include former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Ing. Kwabena Agyepong.
