The Madina Municipal Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Wisdom Akorlor, has commended the performance of YEA-trained Community Police Assistants (CPA) and Fire Service Assistants following a monitoring exercise across several security and emergency service posts within the Madina Division.
Mr. Akorlor explained that the visits were aimed at assessing how beneficiaries of the programme are performing at their respective duty stations, as well as engaging their supervisors for feedback.
According to him, the team checked attendance, work attitude, productivity, and overall conduct, while also identifying challenges that may require intervention.
The monitoring exercise covered the Fire service station, North legon police, Old Ogbojo, New Ogbojo and Sraha Police Station and other units within the Madina Division.
At each location, officials interacted with both supervisors and assistants to gather detailed reports on performance and areas needing improvement.
He noted that beneficiaries whose names came up during engagements were later invited to the YEA office to share their experiences. “We listen to them, advise where necessary, and forward our findings to their superiors to support further action,” he said.
Mr. Akorlor added that he recently met with all Fire Service Assistants to discuss their work and challenges affecting their efficiency. During the meeting, he encouraged them to remain committed and assured them of YEA’s continued support.
He expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the visits, describing the feedback as encouraging. “One key observation was that many of the police and fire assistants are performing exceptionally well.
They are well trained and knowledgeable in areas such as arrest procedures, documentation, and engagement with suspects and complainants—sometimes even beyond what is expected, considering the scope of their assignments,” he stated.
Supervisors, he said, recommended that outstanding assistants be considered for recognition or advancement.
While acknowledging that police operations are independent, Mr. Akorlor emphasized the importance of collaboration in ensuring that hardworking and capable personnel are duly recognized. He encouraged supervisors to raise these concerns at their internal meetings.
Reaffirming the purpose of the monitoring exercise, he stressed that the initiative is meant to improve performance, address challenges, and strengthen cooperation between YEA and the institutions hosting the assistants.
Meanwhile, the Station Master of Sraha Police Station, Chief Inspector Obiri Yeboah, praised the discipline, composure, and commitment of the Madina YEA-trained Community Police Assistants.
He noted that their conduct has been exemplary, adding that they are well versed in procedures such as obtaining extracts, effecting arrests, and communicating effectively with suspects and complainants.
