The Ghana Police Service has intensified its crackdown on violent crime in the Ashanti Region, arresting three suspected members of a notorious robbery syndicate believed to have terrorised communities in Obuasi and its environs.
The suspects — Aziz Abubakar, popularly known as “Romeo,” Faraway Amari, and Patient Asare — were apprehended on 15 February 2026 during a carefully coordinated, intelligence-led operation conducted by the Ashanti South Regional Police Command.
The operation targeted multiple hideouts at Mangoase near Pokukrom, where officers swooped in on locations believed to be linked to the gang’s activities.
The arrests followed weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering aimed at dismantling the group’s operations.
During the raid, police retrieved a cache of items suspected to have been used in criminal activities, including a pump-action shotgun with ammunition, machetes, a bayonet, combat boots, a 9mm round of ammunition, and cash amounting to GH¢20,000.00.
Authorities believe the money may represent proceeds from recent robberies.

Preliminary investigations have further linked two of the suspects to the killing of three individuals at Breme near Bechem in the Bono Region in March 2025 — a case that shocked residents and heightened security concerns in the area.
Police say investigations are ongoing as efforts intensify to track down additional accomplices and recover more weapons believed to be in circulation.
The Command has assured residents of its commitment to restoring calm and ensuring the safety of communities across the region.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days as the investigation progresses.
