In a bid to raise the standard of education in the Pru East constituency, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Area, Honourable Emmanuel Kwaku Boam, has pledged his commitment to advancing education in the area with the launch of the Boam Quiz Competition for schools.
The initiative, which started in 2023, aims to unearth hidden talents in young students and encourage them to excel in their studies.
Addressing the press in Parliament at the sidelines of a visit of Champions of the Competition for this year to parliament, Honourable Boam explained that whereas the first cohort of the competition took place in 2024, with over 60 schools participating, the subsequent ones are working to extend the reach.
The MP, who started the competition as a part of the Kadjebi Yam Festival, believes that it is an opportunity to give back to the community while at the same time inspiring the young minds.
“I used to partake in such competitions when I was a kid, and I believe it shaped me better,” he said.
“Last year’s competition was a huge success, with six schools making it to the finals,” the MP said.

He disclosed that winners of the competition received laptops, accessories, and other prizes.
This year, the MP has taken it a step further by inviting the students to parliament to give them a feel of how the legislative body works.
“It was fun, it was amazing,” he said, adding that he even invited the parents of the students.
The MP’s commitment to education is evident in his scholarship scheme for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, and Mathematics) students, awarding scholarships to the best male and female students in science and providing financial support to over 112 tertiary students in his constituency.
“Poverty levels are quite high, so you need to support a person to even buy the basic stuff to come to school with,” he explained.
With the unrelenting pursuit of encouraging learners within the area, the MP believes that the effort will not go unnoticed, as he is determined to continue the competition and support education in his constituency.
“As long as I remain a member of parliament, they will continue to be in parliament to have a feel of it as well as to entrench the scope of the competition,” he said.
He also expressed his interest in female education, citing the example of a lady who was one of the best in material engineering and is now pursuing her master’s degree with his support.
The quiz competition is a testament to the MP’s commitment to the development of his constituency.
As he continues to support education, a patron remains optimistic that the initiative will yield positive results and produce future leaders.
“We will do our best to make sure that some of these people and the female education aspect are something I’m also much interested in,” he said.
