The government has approved the formal absorption of 6,200 teachers who have been working for over eight months without pay, according to the Education Minister, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu.
Speaking the media, the Minister confirmed that the decision includes the immediate regularization of the affected teachers into the public education system, as well as the payment of all outstanding salary arrears dating back to the start of their service.
“These teachers have shown extraordinary commitment by continuing to teach without receiving a salary for several months.
The Cabinet has now approved their full absorption and the release of funds to settle all back pay,” the Minister said.
According to him, the move is expected to ease pressure on understaffed schools while bringing long-overdue relief to the affected educators, many of whom have been struggling to make ends meet.
Mr Haruna revealed that the Education Ministry is now working with the Ministry of Finance and the Civil Service Commission to expedite the administrative processes required for the disbursement of salaries and issuance of appointment letters.
