Ghana Unveils Ambitious Food Brigade: 10,000 Youth to Drive Agricultural Revolution

Ghana is positioned to revolutionize its agricultural sector with the imminent launch of the Ghana Food Brigade, scheduled for December 2025.

This flagship initiative aims to bolster food security, empower young Ghanaians, and modernize agricultural practices.

The program will enroll 10,000 youth in a four-year national service scheme, with a portion retained annually as permanent staff to strengthen agricultural extension services.

Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, emphasized that this initiative seeks to equip young Ghanaians with practical agricultural skills, creating lasting opportunities in the sector.

“The Ghana Food Brigade is designed to empower our youth, enhance national food production, and ensure sustained support for farmers,” Eric Opoku stated.

This move is expected to enhance productivity, create opportunities for youth engagement, and drive sustainable agricultural development .

The initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to transform Ghana’s agricultural landscape, reduce import dependency, and boost domestic production.

By leveraging cutting-edge technologies and innovative farming practices, Ghana aims to become a leader in agribusiness within Africa and beyond.
