A 27-year-old aspiring journalist, Derick Ofosu Gyan, is battling to regain his sight after he was allegedly attacked with acid by his girlfriend in a shocking incident.
According to reports, the incident occurred in Sogakope, where Derick was living at the time. His girlfriend, who had traveled from Nsawam to visit him, reportedly spent the night at his residence during the visit.
Sources say the relationship later became strained after Derick discovered messages on his girlfriend’s phone suggesting she was romantically involved with other men.
Upset by the discovery, he reportedly ended the relationship and blocked her contact.
However, about a month after the breakup, the situation turned violent.
In the early hours of one morning, while Derick had stepped outside to take his bath at dawn, his estranged girlfriend allegedly appeared unexpectedly and attacked him with acid.
The substance reportedly caused severe injuries, leaving Derick struggling with his vision.
Witnesses say the suspect attempted to flee the scene after the attack but was apprehended shortly afterward.
She has since been arrested by authorities as investigations into the incident continue.
Meanwhile, Derick is receiving medical care and is said to be fighting to recover his sight following the life-altering attack.
The incident has sparked renewed concern about acid attacks and relationship-related violence.
