Minister for the Interior, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, presented a large donation of food items to the Ghana Prisons Service on behalf of businessman and philanthropist Mr. Ibrahim Mahama.
The donation, aimed at easing the feeding challenges of inmates, was delivered to the prison headquarters and included key supplies for the Ramadan season.
The donation consisted of 1,000 bags of rice, 417 boxes of cooking oil, 200 boxes of mackerel, and 300 boxes of tin tomatoes.
These items will be distributed to ten major prisons across the country, including Nsawam, Ankaful, Kumasi Amanfrom, Kumasi Central, Kumasi Manhyia, Sekondi, Koforidua, Tamale, and Sunyani.
During the presentation, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of both officers and inmates within the Ghana Prisons Service.
He reiterated ongoing efforts to provide better resources and living conditions for those in the service.
“This donation is part of the government’s broader efforts to support and improve the conditions within our prisons, recognizing the critical role they play in our justice system,” he remarked.
Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, Director-General of Prisons, received the items on behalf of the Service and expressed her sincere appreciation to Mr. Ibrahim Mahama for his generosity.
She highlighted the significance of the donation, noting that it would greatly help in meeting the nutritional needs of the inmates, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
“We are truly grateful for this timely donation. These items will help alleviate the burden of feeding our inmates, and we deeply appreciate Mr. Mahama’s continued support for the Service” Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie said.
Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie also took the opportunity to call on corporate bodies, individuals, and civil society organizations to support the Minister’s efforts to improve the living conditions of inmates and officers alike.
“We urge others to follow Mr. Ibrahim Mahama’s example and lend a helping hand to ensure our inmates and officers have the necessary resources to thrive,” she appealed.
This donation serves as a reminder of the importance of corporate social responsibility and community support, particularly during times of reflection and compassion.
