Afenyo-Markin Leads Minority in GH¢200K Support for Adum Market Fire Victims

The Minority Caucus in Parliament, led by Minority Leader Mr. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has extended a helping hand to victims of the recent Adum Market fire in Kumasi, donating a total of GH¢200,000 in cash to support their recovery and provide emergency relief.

The donation was made during a visit by members of the caucus to the affected site, where they sympathized with traders and business owners who lost their goods and sources of livelihood in the devastating blaze.

The fire, which ravaged parts of the Adum Market—a major commercial hub in the Ashanti Region—destroyed several shops and stalls, leaving many traders in financial distress.

While investigations into the cause of the fire are still underway, early reports suggest it may have been triggered by an electrical fault.

Addressing the media after presenting the cash support, Mr. Afenyo-Markin emphasized that the gesture transcended partisan politics and was rooted in the caucus’ shared humanity and commitment to the welfare of Ghanaians.

“We are here not as politicians, but as fellow Ghanaians who understand the pain and loss our brothers and sisters are going through. This support is a small contribution to help them rebuild their lives and businesses,” he said.

He further called on government agencies, corporate Ghana, and other philanthropic groups to complement the effort and support the victims as they work toward recovery.

The leadership of the affected traders expressed gratitude for the timely intervention and appealed for more sustained support, including access to soft loans, rebuilding assistance, and improved market infrastructure to prevent future tragedies.
