The skeletal remains of an 85-year-old woman, Obaapanyin Adwoah Takyiwaa—also known locally as Adwoah Gonja—were discovered on Thursday, June 19, 2025, in a secluded bush near Camp 15, close to Nkrankwanta in the Dormaa West District of Ghana’s Bono Region.
This grim discovery came after the elderly woman had been reported missing for over three months, sparking concern and search efforts by the local community.
According to reports from Nyansaponews, a group of hunters stumbled upon the remains during a routine hunt.
Their attention was initially drawn by their dog’s unusual and persistent barking, prompting them to halt their activity and investigate the source of the disturbance.
Upon uncovering the skeletal remains, the hunters promptly alerted community opinion leaders, who quickly mobilized to the scene.
The chief’s linguist, Nana Osei, confirmed the discovery and noted that both traditional authorities and police officers subsequently visited the site to assess the situation and begin preliminary investigations.
In accordance with local customs, a libation ceremony was conducted at the site, praying for the peaceful rest of Obaapanyin Takyiwaa, particularly if her passing was due to natural causes.
At the same time, the traditional leaders invoked the deities of the land, calling for justice and truth to be revealed should there have been any foul play involved in her death.
The community remains deeply saddened by the loss of one of its respected elders, and investigations by the police are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding her disappearance and death.
