Ada Salt Dispute: Parliamentary Committee Pledges Fair Dialogue Between ElectroChem and Local Stakeholders

Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Lands and Natural Resources Committee, Hon. Konadu Akwasi, has assured stakeholders in Ada that the ongoing tensions between residents and ElectroChem Ghana Limited will be addressed through fair and transparent engagement.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Daily Analyst in Parliament, the Manhyia North MP said the Committee is committed to fostering a peaceful resolution to the conflict, which has sparked widespread concern within the Ada constituency.

“Our aim is to harmonize relations between the people of Ada and ElectroChem Ghana Limited.

We believe dialogue is the best way to ensure peaceful co-existence,” he stated.

He acknowledged the importance of attracting foreign investment to maximize the country’s natural resource potential but stressed that development should not come at the expense of local livelihoods.

“We cannot promote development and then ignore the concerns of the people.

It’s vital that indigenes benefit from the resources on their land—especially in a sector like salt production that has supported livelihoods for generations,” he noted.

The MP emphasized that any agreements or negotiations that have the potential to destabilize peace in a local community must be carefully reviewed.

“Wherever mineral resources are discovered, the local population must have a fair opportunity to participate in the exploration and benefit from the economic value generated.

That’s how we ensure inclusive development,” he added.
