Ghana Police Intercept Two Trucks Smuggling 238 Bags of Cocoa Beans at Big Ada

Acting on credible intelligence, the Ghana Police Service has successfully intercepted two trucks suspected of being used in the smuggling of cocoa beans out of the country.

The operation, which took place in Big Ada, led to the seizure of a total of 238 maxi bags of cocoa beans.

The intercepted vehicles—bearing registration numbers GN 6953-22 and GR 9877-12—were found to be loaded with the cocoa beans packed in jute sacks.

In an apparent attempt to evade detection, the beans were concealed beneath other cargo.

Authorities suspect the cocoa was destined to be illegally transported out of Ghana by canoe via the Volta River, a known route for smuggling activities in the area.

Initial investigations suggest the smugglers intended to bypass official export channels, undermining both national security and Ghana’s cocoa industry—a major pillar of the country’s economy.

The Police have commenced further investigations to identify the individuals behind the operation and bring them to justice.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about cocoa smuggling, which threatens the country’s agricultural revenue and the livelihood of legitimate cocoa farmers.
