The Member of Parliament for Sunyani West, Honourable Millicent Amankwah Yeboah, is calling for increased efforts to prevent maternal mortality in Ghana.

Speaking in Parliament, she emphasized the need for additional training for nurses to improve their handling of newborns and prevent unnecessary deaths.

Honourable Yeboah’s appeal was prompted by a statement made by Honourable Laurita Korkor Asante, the Atewa West MP, who highlighted the alarming rate of maternal mortality in the country.

Honourable Yeboah shared a personal experience where her daughter’s life was nearly lost due to negligence by medical staff, underscoring the need for urgent action.

Whereas the Sunyani West MP identified poor road infrastructure in various communities as a contributing factor to maternal mortality, as pregnant women often struggle to access medical facilities due to impassable roads, she believes that extensive training for nurses will be the right way.

She urged the government to prioritize road construction to ensure safe transportation for expectant mothers and their unborn babies.

Honourable Yeboah’s call to action emphasizes the need for a multifaceted approach to address maternal mortality, including improved healthcare infrastructure, enhanced training for medical personnel, and better road networks.
