Member of Parliament for Pru East, Honourable Emmanuel Boam, has accused the former Akufo-Addo led administration of deliberately creating conditions that enabled widespread examination malpractices during the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The Pru East legislator alleged that the conditions created by the President Akufo-Addo government were intended to boost pass rates under the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy.
Speaking to journalists, the Pru East MP claimed that those conditions have weakened examination environment under the previous government opened avenues for students to pay “examination support levies” that facilitated cheating, while some candidates were reportedly allowed to enter examination halls with mobile phones.
The lawmaker questioned the penchant of candidates to sneak mobile phones into examination hall without any fear shows that they were empowered to do so and during that period too, no punitive measures were taken against teachers or invigilators who allowed such malpractices to occur.
According to Hon. Boam the current government has showed commitment to sanitize the educational system and clamping down on examination malpractices in demonstration of the real cognitive abilities and academic prowess of the students.
The legislator however commended the Education Minister,Hon. Haruna Iddrisu for his proactive measures to address issues of malpractices before, during and post WASSCE examination in a bid to making the Educational sector better.
The Pru East legislator vehemently refuted claims that government deliberately failed students to reduce pressure on the Free Tertiary Education for level 100 students policy.
In conclusion, the Pru East legislator stated that the widely circulated argument was baseless while further urging Ghanaians to reject same and treat with the contempt it deserves.
