Ghana Armed Forces Support Post-Hurricane Housing Reconstruction in Jamaica

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), in collaboration with the Jamaican Defence Force (JDF), have made notable progress in rebuilding homes in Black River and other communities in Saint Elizabeth, following the recent hurricane that affected parts of Jamaica.

In response to the disaster, which struck in October 2025, the Government of Ghana deployed 54 personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces’ 14 Engineer Brigade (Engineer Contingent One) to assist with national reconstruction efforts in Jamaica.

The Ghanaian Engineering Reconstruction Team has been working closely with the JDF’s 1 Engineering Regiment on housing rehabilitation projects in the affected areas.

Communities in Black River and surrounding parts of Saint Elizabeth were among the hardest hit by the hurricane, which caused extensive damage to residential structures and disrupted livelihoods. Reconstruction work is currently ongoing, with a focus on restoring safe housing for displaced residents.

The deployment forms part of Ghana’s broader humanitarian and international solidarity efforts. Working alongside the Jamaican Defence Force and other partners, the Ghana Armed Forces are contributing technical expertise and manpower to support recovery and help affected families rebuild their lives.
