The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, says the party has no concerns about vote-buying in its internal electoral processes, insisting that the issue has never arisen within the party.
Speaking on the matter, Mr Frimpong stated that the NPP has not conducted any recent internal elections that would warrant concerns about vote-buying.
“We have not had any concerns because we have not conducted any elections,” he said.
He added that the NPP has a track record of organising internal elections without controversies related to inducements. According to him, the party successfully held its presidential primaries not long ago without any allegations of vote-buying.
“Well, NPP, this is not the first time we have organised internal elections. And if you recall, we had presidential elections not long ago. And after the presidential elections, it never became an issue that there was vote-buying in NPP presidential elections,” he noted.
Mr Frimpong contrasted the NPP’s experience with that of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), suggesting that discussions about vote-buying have been more closely associated with that party.
“The main vote-buying issue has to do with the NDC and the Ayawaso East election,” he said.
He further remarked that if required, the NPP could offer advice to its political opponents on addressing the issue.
“So if you want to ask us to advise our friends from the NDC on vote-buying, I can do it for you. Because the NPP has not had issues with vote-buying,” he added.
His comments come amid renewed public discussions about transparency and integrity in internal party elections as political parties prepare for upcoming organisational activities.
