The Madina Job Centre (MJC), with full sponsorship from the Member of Parliament for the Madina Constituency, Hon. Dr. Francis Xavier Sosu, has launched a free monthly masterclass designed to equip young people with practical, income-generating skills.
The maiden edition of the initiative commenced on the last Saturday of February 2026.
Participants received hands-on training in the preparation of samosa, spring rolls, and chicken rolls — popular food items with strong market demand.
The initiative is fully sponsored by the Member of Parliament for the Madina Constituency, Dr. Francis Xavier Sosu, as part of efforts to reduce unemployment and create additional income opportunities for residents.
Practical Skills for Sustainable Income
In an interview, Mercy Karley Mensah, Coordinator for Vocational Training at the Madina Job Centre, explained that the program was conceived by the MP to empower constituents with lifelong, income-generating skills.
According to her, the training is structured as an in-person, hands-on masterclass designed to provide participants with practical experience rather than just theoretical knowledge.
She noted that the program takes place on the last Saturday of every month with different practical skills at the Madina Job Centre’s office within the municipality.
All participants who complete the training will be awarded certificates to formally recognize their newly acquired skills.
Call for Corporate Support
Amadu Tahiru, Director for Vocational and Apprenticeship at the Madina Job Centre, appealed to corporate bodies and philanthropists to support the initiative.
He called for assistance in the form of ovens and other catering equipment to help apprentices who are graduating from the Centre’s one-year training programs in bread, cake and pastry making, as well as local and continental dishes.
He further commended the MP for championing several development-focused projects in the constituency and urged individuals and organizations to partner with the Centre to expand its impact.
Beneficiaries Applaud Initiative
Some participants of the masterclass expressed appreciation for the opportunity, describing the initiative as timely and impactful.
They noted that the training would enable them to start small catering businesses or earn supplementary income, thereby improving their livelihoods.
