Madina MP Donates Over GH¢300,000 to Support Indomie Vendors and Job Centre Graduates

The Member of Parliament for Madina, Dr. Francis Xavier-Sosu, has disbursed over GH¢300,000 to support 24 small-scale indomie vendors and newly trained graduates from the Madina Job Centre, in a move aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and tackling youth unemployment in the constituency.

The funding initiative coincides with the graduation of 50 trainees from the Madina Job Centre (MJC), a skills development hub established by the MP in 2019. The graduates have completed programmes lasting between three months, six months, and one year in areas such as digital marketing, baking, and other vocational skills.

As part of the support package, graduates who specialised in baking received food supplies and Ovens to kick-start their businesses, while top-performing trainees were awarded GH¢5,000 each to help expand their operations.

In addition, 24 entrepreneurs operating Indomie noodle joints across more than 50 locations in Madina were each given GH¢5,000 to strengthen and grow their businesses.

The intervention is expected to stimulate local enterprise development and create employment opportunities within the community. All the graduates received National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) certificate.

Dr. Sosu underscored the importance of entrepreneurship as a practical response to youth unemployment, noting that while government plays a critical role in job creation, it cannot single-handedly provide employment for all young people.

He described youth unemployment as a global challenge affecting both developing and advanced economies, warning that it poses risks to social stability and national security.

He therefore encouraged young people to embrace self-employment rather than relying solely on formal job opportunities.

According to the MP, many unemployed constituents who seek his assistance are directed to the Madina Job Centre, where they receive training, business development support, and, in some cases, access to funding.

Through partnerships with the Madina Chamber of Commerce, the initiative has facilitated over GH¢1 million in financial support for small businesses.

Beneficiaries are selected based on viable business proposals and are supported to scale up their operations.

This year’s graduating cohort includes 50 young women and 24 mothers engaged in local industry ventures, all of whom have received financial assistance to expand their businesses.

Dr. Sosu highlighted the potential ripple effect of such investments, explaining that if each supported entrepreneur employs even a few additional workers, the overall impact on job creation in Madina could be significant.

He called for similar community-based models to be replicated nationwide as a proactive approach to addressing unemployment.

While awaiting broader government interventions to improve economic conditions, the MP urged beneficiaries to take full advantage of the support provided, grow their enterprises, and inspire others within their communities.

He expressed optimism that sustained investment in skills training and entrepreneurship would drive long-term economic development and create a cycle of opportunity for future generations.
