Dr. Francis-Xavier Sosu Clears Hospital Bills of Abused North Legon Teen, Supports Mother with GH₵3,000

Madina MP and human rights lawyer, Hon. Dr. Francis-Xavier Sosu Esq., has intervened to support a 15-year-old Joseph Martey, the North Legon teenager allegedly tied to a motorcycle and dragged through the streets by his father, by fully settling his medical bills, funding his recovery, and providing financial support to his family.

Joseph, who suffered severe injuries in the shocking incident that sparked widespread public outrage, was rushed to the University of Ghana Hospital for emergency treatment after he was rescued.

Medical officials say he is responding positively to treatment and showing significant signs of recovery.

According to reports, the Madina Divisional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) Commander, ASP Dorison Tackyiwaah, contacted Hon. Dr. Francis-Xavier Sosu shortly after the incident to seek support for the teenager’s treatment and rehabilitation.

In response, the legislator and lawyer immediately committed to covering the cost of Joseph’s medical care.

Dr. Sosu has since paid all outstanding hospital bills and medication costs associated with the boy’s treatment.

In addition, he donated GH₵3,000 to Joseph’s mother to help cover transportation and other welfare needs as the family continues to attend hospital appointments for dressing and treatment of the victim’s wounds.

As part of efforts to ensure Joseph’s complete recovery, Dr. Sosu has also arranged professional psychological counselling to support the teenager’s emotional and mental well-being, alongside ongoing medical reviews and wound care treatment.

Dr. Sosu was accompanied during the intervention by Belinda Narkey Quaynor Esq., Lead Lawyer at F-X Law and Associates and Head of Legal Affairs at the Office of the Madina MP.

The incident has reignited conversations around child protection, domestic violence, and the need for stronger intervention systems to safeguard vulnerable children.
