The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to resourcing the Ghana Police Service to enable it to discharge its duties effectively.
Speaking at the commissioning of an 85-bed ward named in honour of the Inspector General of Police – the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno Ward Complex (CTYWC), President Mahama stated that the government will continue to provide the Ghana Police Service with the logistics needed to do its job well.
“Government will continue to provide you the logistics needed to do your job well. We know the sacrifices you make to keep our nation safe, and we will not leave you to work with your bare hands,” President Mahama assured.
According to the President, security is the foundation of national development, and a well-equipped and well-motivated Police Service is indispensable to Ghana’s peace, stability and economic growth.
He noted that in recent months, government has been taking steps to retool the Police Service with vehicles, protective gear, communication equipment, accommodation and healthcare infrastructure, and that more will be done.
The newly commissioned 85-bed ward complex is a major boost to the Police Hospital, which serves police personnel, their families and the general public. The facility, named after IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, is expected to ease pressure on the hospital, improve inpatient and emergency care, and enhance the overall welfare of officers.
President Mahama commended the IGP, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and the Police Administration for their leadership and for prioritizing the health and welfare of personnel.
He also praised health workers at the Police Hospital for their dedication and urged them to maintain high standards of professionalism and compassion in handling patients.
The President reiterated that government will continue to invest in health infrastructure not only for the Police but for all security services, because a healthy security service is a secure nation.
The ceremony was attended by the IGP, members of the Police Management Board, senior government officials, officers and men of the Ghana Police Service, and medical staff of the Police Hospital.
