Relief for Future Teachers: SLTF Clears 3-Month Allowance Arrears for 65,000+ Teacher Trainees

The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has disbursed delayed allowances owed to teacher trainees across Ghana, settling three months of arrears for the 2023/2024 academic year.

This timely intervention has directly benefited 65,685 students enrolled in 46 public Colleges of Education, reinforcing the SLTF’s vital role in supporting access to tertiary education.

The payment of these allowances, which had been outstanding for several months, comes as a welcome development for the affected trainees, many of whom rely heavily on these stipends for academic and personal sustenance.

“The SLTF remains steadfast in our commitment to ensuring timely, transparent, and efficient financial support services delivery for the benefit of students,” a spokesperson from the Fund affirmed.

Supporting Ghana’s Education Reset

This move also aligns with the government’s broader “reset agenda”, a strategic initiative aimed at revitalizing the education sector and ensuring Ghana’s future workforce is well-equipped and uninterrupted in their academic pursuits.

The SLTF emphasized that this initiative isn’t a one-off measure.

In a bid to ensure sustainability and prevent future delays, the Fund is rolling out robust mechanisms to ensure consistent and reliable disbursements, strictly aligned with policy directives.

These improvements are set to make the allowance system more efficient and predictable for students going forward.

Building a Resilient Future Through Education

By fulfilling its core mandate of supporting students financially, the SLTF is not only easing immediate financial burdens but also contributing meaningfully to the long-term development of Ghana’s education sector
