Member of Parliament for Pru East in the Bono East Region, Honourable Emmanuel Kwaku Boam, is calling for immediate repairs on deteriorating roads in the area to protect lives and ensure safer travel.
Speaking to journalists, the MP expressed deep concern over the poor condition of the main road linking the northern and southern parts of the country, describing it as a serious threat to commuters.
“The state of the road has become a death trap.
It not only delays travel but exposes users to frequent armed robbery attacks,” he stated.
Honourable Boam emphasized the frustration of residents, urging the government to prioritize fixing the road network.
He revealed that the stretch from Amanten to Yeji, which should take an hour to travel, now takes over three hours due to massive potholes, some of which have become deep craters.
He thanked Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak for deploying 50 security personnel to the area as a temporary measure to improve safety.
However, the MP stressed that long-term solutions lie in fixing the roads.
Highlighting the urgency, Mr. Boam said residents are planning a protest dubbed “Who Is Next Demo” in response to the recent shooting of a businessman on the same road.
He also pointed out the economic implications, noting that the route plays a vital role in transporting food to the southern part of the country.
He warned that delays in road repairs could lead to food shortages and higher prices.
“The road hasn’t seen any significant improvement in over two decades.
It was last worked on during the time of former Presidents Rawlings and Kufuor.
We’re encouraged by the Minister’s assurance that major maintenance will begin soon,” he added.
The MP called on authorities to act swiftly to prevent further tragedies and ensure the economic lifeline of the region remains open.
