5th edition of Ghana hats fair held with calls to the youth to take advantage

Fifth edition of the Ghana hat fair had been held with calls to the youth to seize opportunities for self employment.

The event which came off last Saturday, November 8,2025 in Accra saw milliners demonstrate amazing crafts to the admiration of patrons.

Hailing the wealth of creativity and innovative designs, the Queen mother of Gyakiti-Oframase in the Akwanmu Traditional Area Nana Yaa Adobea Sikapa, emphasized the need for decentralizing the uniqueness of the festival for spread of ideas and easy adoption.

The move, the Queenmother  added would enhance the appreciation and involvement of Ghanaians stating the importance and creative nature of the millinery industry thereby appealing to the youth to get involved.

She described the artistry as a mastermind with business potentials in creating employment opportunities for everybody willing to get involved.

Disabusing perception among the general public regarding what may be referred to as slow pace of money generation, Nana Yaa Adobea Sikapa emphasized the need for one to be deliberate and purposeful in starting up a business and marshall all forces in sustaining it in order to transcend the borders of Ghana.

On her part, the brainchild behind the millinery festival, Founder and Executive Director of Milliners Network Ghana, Twumwa Sakyi-Manteaw highlighted that  importance of the event in promoting and projecting the Ghanaian millinery and milliners both home and abroad.

According to her, it is important one acquires a creative skill for self employment.

This, she disclosed will reduce the endless search for non-existence job thereby stemming down unwarranted explorations.

She indicated that the artistry presents plethora of opportunities for many regardless of whatever one is engaged in.

“It is important you’ve some skills after your basic education, be it JHS or SHS, you don’t need to look for employment and you can learn this trade and monetize it. We have nurses, doctors who do it on part time basis while others do it on full-time and it’s very lucrative,”she wooed in an interview.

She indicated that the millinery footprint had not been limited to Ghana alone disclosing further that milliners from Nigeria and Botswana were part of the previous years’ celebrations.

“Before I went into millinery, I am a social worker and I realize it wasn’t helping me because there was no one to take care of my child at home so I decided to quit and do something else with my hand and I have not regreted as I get clients all over the world and it is huge,”she revealed.

“I encourage anybody who is interested to go ahead and learn,”Twumwaa Sakyi-Manteaw urged.

She concluded by saying that since the maiden edition in 2021,2022 and 2023 also saw another level of artistry therefore upbeat that the festival had come to stay.

The Executive Director used the medium to invite all and sundry to get involved in creating self job opportunities.
