The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye widely known as Nana B has accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its Majority Caucus of engineering a coordinated effort to intimidate and silence outspoken NPP MPs in Parliament.
Speaking at a press conference at the NPP headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra, on Tuesday, December 9, Nana B alleged that the NDC had singled out the party’s Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, along with other influential NPP legislators, in what he described as a calculated attempt to weaken parliamentary oversight and stifle accountability.
He vowed that the NPP would resist what he called an “evil plot,” insisting that the party remained united, alert and committed to defending its mandate.
According to him, the alleged strategy by the governing party is aimed at silencing the most assertive voices holding government to account.
Nana B stressed that the NPP would not relent in exposing what it considers instances of fraud, corruption and abuse of power by the current administration, adding that the party would deploy all legitimate parliamentary mechanisms to protect democratic integrity.
He maintained that any attempt by the Majority to suppress the Minority amounted to an attack on Ghana’s democratic foundation and would be met with firm resistance.
“Attempting to mute the Minority is an attack on democracy itself, and we shall resist it outrightly,” he declared.
Nana B further cautioned the NDC not to interpret the NPP’s commitment to peace as weakness, warning that restraint should not be mistaken for surrender.
He criticised what he called “outrageous and biased judgments” and recent threats of parliamentary confrontation, saying such actions undermine the country’s democratic values.
He also condemned suggestions from some NDC members that certain duly elected NPP MPs should be barred from taking their seats in Parliament, describing such proposals as “dictatorship masquerading as law” and an affront to the sovereignty of voters.
“We will not be silenced while you pervert justice. We will not allow you to criminally annex seats you could not win at the ballot box,” he stated.
