At a press briefing in Parliament, the Minority represented by the Deputy Ranking Member of the Lands and Natural Resources Committee, Akwasi Konadu described the withdrawal of the deal as evidence of poor leadership in the sector, arguing that the agreement failed to adequately protect the long-term interests of the state, therefore calling on the sector minister to resign.
They further insisted that the government maintains a 10 per cent royalty stake in the lithium agreement, rejecting the proposed 5 per cent, and noted that the Legislative Instrument (LI) amendment still reflects the lower figure.
The Minority says it remains committed to pushing for a renegotiated lithium agreement that guarantees greater value and goodwill for the state, warning that it will continue to resist any deal that undermines Ghana’s natural resource interests.
