President John Dramani Mahama has renewed calls for reparations for historical injustices against Africans and people of African descent, urging African nations and the diaspora to present a united front in advancing the cause.
He made the call while addressing a diaspora summit, where leaders, activists, and stakeholders from across Africa and the global African community gathered to discuss shared history, identity, and development.
President Mahama emphasised that reparations go beyond financial compensation, describing them as a pathway to justice, healing, and the restoration of dignity for Africans affected by slavery, colonialism, and systemic exploitation.
According to him, a coordinated and united African position is essential to achieving meaningful progress, noting that fragmented efforts weaken the continent’s bargaining power on the global stage.
He also highlighted the importance of stronger collaboration between African governments and the diaspora, stressing that unity would enhance advocacy efforts and support broader development goals across the continent.
President Mahama’s remarks have added momentum to ongoing continental and global conversations on reparations, with growing calls for structured engagement and international dialogue on the issue.
