Police in the Central Region are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 37-year-old teacher in what is believed to be a case of suicide.

The deceased, identified as Emmanuel Kofi Quainoo, was a teacher at Faith Academy Basic School in Assin Dompim, within the Assin Fosu Municipality.

According to sources at the school, Mr. Quainoo had been absent from work for some time and only resumed duties on March 3, 2026. Colleagues reported that he appeared unwell during the school day and left the premises around midday, shortly after the second break.

He reportedly informed staff that he was not feeling well and intended to return home to seek medical attention.

Later that day, information reached the school community that Mr. Quainoo had been found unresponsive in his room at Assin Fosu in what authorities suspect to be a suicide.

Sources indicate that his two daughters, aged eight and seven, discovered him when they returned home from school and raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to intervene and notify authorities.

Police have since begun investigations into the incident. The body has reportedly been conveyed for preservation and further examination as part of standard procedure.

The tragic development has left colleagues, students, and members of the community in shock.
