The 2026 Budget Statement introduces a establishment of Office of Value for Money, aimed at preventing inflated contract values and weak pre-contract oversight.
This office will provide pre-contract oversight, ensuring value is established for contracts before they are awarded, avoiding corruption and waste.
According to Lawyer James Enu, MP for Tema West, the Value for Money Office is an innovative approach to prevent corruption, focusing on prevention rather than cure, adding that it is expected to save the country money and promote transparency in government spending.
The legislator reiterated that the Office will save the country 3 billion Ghana cedis annually for the next five years, as it will ensure that money is not released from the public purse without proper authorisation.
“This whooping amount of money can be used to address many challenges in this country”, he said.
