Police Arrest Suspect Over Suspected Counterfeit Foreign Currency and Illegal Firearm at Ablekuma

The Ghana Police Service, through its National Operations Directorate Surveillance Unit, has arrested a suspect at Ablekuma in the Greater Accra Region for the alleged possession of suspected counterfeit foreign currency and a firearm without lawful authority.

The suspect, identified as Josiah Elorm Kwame Amezado, was apprehended following intelligence reports that a self-styled fetish priest in the area was allegedly involved in criminal activities and in possession of a firearm, posing a potential threat to public safety.

Acting on the intelligence, police conducted an operation that led to the arrest of the suspect.

A subsequent search of his room resulted in the recovery of several items, including quantities of United States dollar notes in one-hundred-dollar denominations suspected to be counterfeit, a pair of handcuffs, a black vest, a Kuzey A100 blank pistol, and fifty-eight (58) rounds of 9mm blank ammunition.

The suspect is currently in police custody, while investigations continue to determine the source and authenticity of the recovered foreign currency, as well as the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm and other items.
