Madina MP Donates GH¢4,000 to Support “My Mother Tongue” Reading Competition

The member of parliament for the Madina Constituency, Hon. Dr. Francis-Xavier Sosu has donated GH¢4,000.00 to support the “My Mother Tongue” Reading Competition and the official launch of the Wear Ghana Festival 2026 in Madina.

The donation will be shared among four winners of the reading competition as a token of encouragement and recognition for their outstanding performances.

Personal Reflections on Language and Culture

Speaking at the event, Dr. Sosu reflected on his childhood experiences in cultural competitions. He recounted emerging as overall winner in a Ga poetry recital during his school days.

He also recalled placing second at the All-Ghanaian Schools Cultural Festival with a poetry performance in the Ga language, despite studying Ewe as his selected language at the time.

He noted that those experiences shaped his confidence and appreciation for Ghanaian languages and traditions.

Commendation for Cultural Promotion

Dr. Sosu commended the Municipal Assembly, particularly its Cultural Department, for organising the programme and promoting Ghanaian culture and indigenous languages.

He urged participating schools and students to remain focused on their studies, stressing that dedication to education and cultural identity would empower them to contribute meaningfully to national development.

According to him, the boldness to speak one’s local language builds confidence and strengthens cultural pride.

He encouraged young people to embrace and celebrate their heritage without hesitation.

Dignitaries in Attendance

The event was attended by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Ibrahim Faila, chiefs from Madina, assembly members, and key stakeholders from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

The Wear Ghana Festival 2026 is expected to highlight Ghana’s rich cultural diversity, traditional attire, and creative arts, while promoting the use of local languages among the youth.
