Hundreds of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in the Madina Municipality have received targeted mentorship and psychological support through a new initiative led by the Office of Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Francis Xavier Sosu, aimed at improving performance and addressing exam-related anxiety.
The Office of the Member of Parliament for the Madina Constituency, Hon. Dr. Francis Xavier Sosu, in partnership with Safe Nest Therapeutic and Advocacy Center and in collaboration with the Center for Legal Aid and Social Protection, Madina, has organised a mentorship session for BECE candidates across the Danfa, Pantang, and Oyarifa circuits.

Speaking on behalf of the MP, Chief of Staff Ivan Jakpasu described the initiative as a long-envisioned intervention by Dr. Sosu to support young learners beyond the classroom.
He noted that while many students prepare adequately for examinations, a lack of critical guidance and psychological readiness often undermines their performance.
“We understand the struggles young people face. Some students do not fail because they are unprepared, but because they lack the right information and mental preparedness. This mentorship is intended to bridge that gap,” he said.

Mr. Jakpasu added that the programme will be institutionalised as a regular feature within the constituency, with plans to expand it to cover students at various educational levels.
The initiative focuses on equipping candidates with strategies to manage stress and anxiety, while also discouraging examination malpractice.
He further reaffirmed the MP’s commitment to supporting education through scholarships for brilliant but financially challenged students, noting that an update on beneficiaries will be shared with the community in the coming weeks.

Highlighting the MP’s personal journey from humble beginnings to notable academic success, Mr. Jakpasu said the initiative reflects Dr. Sosu’s dedication to helping young people realise their full potential.
On her part, Chief Executive Officer of Safe Nest Therapeutic and Advocacy Center, Ruth Mawerna Sosu, emphasised the importance of addressing exam anxiety among students.
She explained that emotional and psychological challenges often hinder students’ ability to perform to their full potential.

“Exam anxiety is real, and it affects performance significantly. If a student is overwhelmed by fear or personal challenges, it becomes difficult to excel, regardless of preparation,” she said.
According to her, the mentorship sessions focused on practical techniques to help students manage anxiety and build confidence ahead of their examinations.
She noted that many participants openly shared their experiences and responded positively to the guidance provided.

“Several students admitted struggling with anxiety, but they have embraced the support and are committed to applying what they have learned to improve their performance,” she added.
The organisers expressed optimism that the initiative will not only improve examination outcomes but also build resilience and confidence among students in the Madina Municipality.
Some of the BECE candidates who benefited from the mentorship program shared their appreciation for the Madina MP and vowed to be successful in the exams.
