The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a key figure in the local drug trade following a major operation in Buduburam and surrounding communities within the Gomoa East Municipality of the Central Region.
The operation, carried out on Friday, 16 January 2026, led to the arrest of 32-year-old Rebecca Afia Naa Dei Kotei, popularly known as “Mother,” who has been described by local opinion leaders as a central figure in the area’s illicit drug network.

According to authorities, she had long been on the radar of law enforcement but had previously managed to evade arrest.
Rebecca Kotei was apprehended alongside several other suspects during the coordinated swoop.

A significant quantity of suspected illicit drugs was also seized, underscoring the scale of the alleged operation and its impact on the local drug trade.
NACOC officials say the arrest marks a major breakthrough in efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking and abuse in the Buduburam enclave, which has been identified as a hotspot for narcotics-related activities.

The suspects are currently in custody and assisting with investigations, while the seized substances are undergoing further analysis.

NACOC has reaffirmed its commitment to sustained operations aimed at dismantling drug networks and ensuring the safety and well-being of communities across the country.
